I'm thinking about writing a paper that studies the casting of Michael Almereyda's Hamlet (that's the one with Ethan Hawke and Julia Stiles). The movie's kind of a disaster, but I can definitely see why the actors were chosen for these roles. Take a look at the cast!

I don't have a suggestion about the Ethan Hawke hamlet paper because after watching the first few scenes of the film on netflix I still cant quite understand some of the choices the director made in casting and setting. I can understand the choice of Bill Murray as Polonius because I have watched youtube clips of his other films and he is a funny actor. I think Polonius is a funny/foolish role. Hamlet teases him and makes fun of him to his face and he does not even realize it most of the time.
You might compare the cast of the 2000 hamlet with the cast of the DeCaprio Romeo & Julet or the Julia Stiles Othello adaption "O" they all were released around the same time period accoring to wikipedia and they all had modern settings
